Cove Golf Comes To North Van

Cove Golf is a new company based in North Vancouver manufacturing CNC machined putters and accessories. Club maker Martin Novak worked as a machinist for 5 years before opening his own machine shop in 2020.

As a proud Canadian with a passion for golf, it became Martin's goal to develop a 100% Canadian-made, machine-milled putter of the highest quality....and Cove Golf was born.

 Sold Out At Seymour

It's been a busy start to the season for Seymour Golf & Country Club on the North Shore. This past weekend, April 12-13, Seymour hosted a British Columbia Golf Performance Camp for aspiring young players and the camp 'sold out' a few weeks ago. The camp was open to BC Golf Junior members aged 12 to 15.

The lead coach of the camp was Colin Lavers, a PGA of Canada Class 'A' Professional and long-time contributing coach for BC Golf. Colin was assisted at the camp by Scott Kerr, a professional golfer and the former Captain of Simon Fraser University’s Varsity Men’s Golf Team, Connor Rosenlund, a PGA Associate Professional and Tyler McKay a PGA of Canada Class A member and the Manager, Competitions and Member Events with British Columbia Golf.

The 2-day camp included:

  • On course play
  • National Testing protocols for putting, chipping, wedges, approach and driver
  • Friendly competitions
  • Information on the Competitive Pathway to help guide players on their golf journey
  • Information on the Pillars of Performance and how/when to best utilize them
  • Statistics and their importance in benchmarking and how players can utilize them to improve their game
  • A parent info session on the best ways to support their golfer

Just prior to the performance camp taking place, Seymour also announced that the 17th annual North Shore Community Foundation Tournament, scheduled for Friday, June 7th, was also sold out. You can see more about what this event supports and is about here

Zone 4 Executive News - Recognition for Bill McDonald, Retirement for Bruce Main

- courtesy Jim Sutherland, Zone 4

There are two items of interest from the Zone 4 executive to report, according to their website, one happy, the other bittersweet.

The first is recognition for longtime director Bill McDonald (below, left). Bill has been competing in Zone 4 amateur and senior events for some five decades, and early in this century moved into an administrative role as a director.

For the past several years he’s been running their annual Amateur championship, and three years ago spearheaded the founding of the zone's new Mid-Amateur championship. For his dedicated service, he was recently awarded a Volunteer Recognition Award by then president of BC Golf, Greg Moody (above, right). Congratulations go out to Bill!

The other piece of news sees congratulations also go out to Bruce Main. Recently, after a quarter century of dedicated service, Bruce announced that he planned to retire as a Zone 4 director. Bruce joined the zone as a director in 2000, and ran the junior program for eight years, then moved on to the senior chair for another eight years.

During that time he also helped compile the roster book. Since 2017, he’s been running the zone's annual Tournament of Champions, in addition to lots of other duties. “I always enjoy meeting the Juniors at events that many still play in,” he says.

Bruce is handing over the Tournament of Champions to Sean Crowther, but promises to help out where needed while continuing to show up at many zone events, so please feel free to extend your thanks the next time you see him!
