Shauna Wilton Becomes The Third Woman To Lead The Organization Since The Amalgamation Of The BCGA & The BCLGA

For Immediate Release

Delta, BC - April 9, 2024 - British Columbia Golf, BC's Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) for golf, is pleased to announce the election of its newest president, Shauna Wilton. Wilton was officially elected by the BC Golf Board on April 6th and succeeds Greg Moody, who will remain on the board as past president.

Wilton, the third woman to hold the position of president with the Association since the amalgamation of the BCGA and the BCLGA in 2004 said, "It’s an honour to work alongside the board, staff and volunteers to positively influence the sport I love so much."

A lifelong participant in sport and an avid recreational golfer, Wilton brings a wealth of related professional experience to her new position.

Wilton is currently the VP of Event Operations at Vancouver's PNE. Most recently to that, she spent two years as a partner at Cascadia Strategy, a management consulting firm, and six years in senior managerial roles at the Vancouver Park Board and City of Vancouver.

Wilton has 15 years of board experience at the local and national level and has been a volunteer acting as a starter and scoring official for BC and Golf Canada events as well as being an Olympic and Paralympic Games volunteer during the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games.

British Columbia Golf CEO Kris Jonasson said, "British Columbia Golf has been fortunate in having the right leadership, at the right time and I have no doubt Shauna Wilton will continue this tradition. Her focus on sound business practices as well as good governance is exactly what is required to shepherd the organization through the next stages of evolution. I feel fortunate to have her leading us forward," in welcoming Wilton to her new role.

A full interview feature with new British Columbia Golf President, Shauna Wilton, is coming in the next issue of The Scorecard, BC Golf's digital magazine. Here is a preview of one of the topics covered with Shauna:

Q: As the incoming President, do you have a vision for British Columbia Golf at this time?

A: I haven't really thought about this but part of it is we're viewed as a leader I think across Canada in terms of pushing the boundaries on growing the game and increasing accessibility in the game. We've got this rich history of putting things into place like the public player program. That started in British Columbia. So I think a lot of it is actually continuing to push the boundaries where we can on those sorts of things in service of the game, and so I do think there's still room to grow. In that vein, when it comes to women and golf, we signed on to the R&A with their golf charter, and we did some of the commitments as it pertained to that but I think there's definitely more that we can do. Also, we just started with the All Abilities Golf Championship last year. I think we have to continue to drive that. So I want us to continue to push the boundaries. That would be my big picture vision.
